Education and Training Workshop

This workshop aims to:

  • Increase knowledge of unsafe alcohol use and the common comorbidities of anxiety and depression

  • Increase identification of comorbidity and related needs

  • Promote advice on brief interventions that are evidence-based

  • Promote patient self-care resources to support screening, advice and intervention for comorbidity in general practice

  • Improve referral and shared care arrangements for comorbidity by meeting and liaising with other service providers

  • Communicate outcomes that can reasonably be anticipated from the identification, advice and interventions delivered in general practice.

This Active Learning Module has been approved by the RACGP QA&CPD Program.

Accredited by the GPMHSC as a 'Level One Mental Health Skills Training' program Completion allows GPs who have also completed Familiarisation Training to register for Level One of the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care initiative. Where GPs are already registered at Level One, completion will fulfil their 2005-2007 mental health CPD requirements.

When   The workshops will be held over two evenings

Wednesday 14 September (GPs only) and Wednesday 21 September (GPs and other mental health and drug and alcohol service providers including those in the community as well as those in the private sector such as psychologists and psychiatrist).

Venue - IDGP Conference Room  Time- 6.30-9.30pm both nights with dinner included.

The workshops will create a unique opportunity for you to liase with other service providers and to discuss management and referral issues related to patients with common mental health comorbidities
