TAADISTAADIS (The Automated Accessible Diabetes Information System) the Division’s diabetes program, has closed. From 2003-2008 the program provided:
A total of 46 GPs were involved and 874 patients were enrolled. One study (CEPHRIS, 2005) compared TAADIS diabetes data and the NDDP (National Division Diabetes Program) data. The analysis showed that blood pressure and HbA1c were significantly decreased and HDL significantly increased in TAADIS, compared to the NDDP.Preventing diabetes complicationsBy visiting your GP regularly for diabetes checks you can prevent or delay serious complications such as heart disease, and damage to kidneys and eyesight. Regular visits are essential – even if you do not have any symptoms. Diabetes management involves 3 things: A sensible diet, regular physical activity and in some cases, medication. Preventing diabetesIf you have “pre-diabetes” (impaired fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance) your GP can help you make important changes that will prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. The most effective strategies are a sensible diet and regular physical activity, for example exercise has been shown to be twice as effective as diabetes medication in preventing progression from pre-diabetes to diabetes.
