Some exciting statistics have come through regarding our HMR program. NATIONAL PHARMACY RESULTS: Illawarra came 1st in January (87 referrals) and July (114 referrals) this year and 7th in February (55) and April (74). We currently have on average 40 GPs using HMR regularly.
19 Nov 2005 Winner of 2005 Division Awards
Congratulations to the two winners of our biannual Division Awards. At the IDGP AGM, held on 18 November, Dr John Wighton was presented with the 2005 Award for Division Service, and Dr Jim Turner with the 2005 Award for Clinical Leadership. Congratulations!

The winner of the Illawarra GP of the Year Award for 2005 is Dr Robert Sidhwani from Corrimal. The winner of the Illawarra Practice of the Year Award for 2005 is Market Street Medical Practice.

The Illawarra Division of General Practice’s community partnership with PRIME TV and WAVE FM received the highest accolade last night, when the partnership was named the national winner of the Small Business Category at the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships.

6 Sep 2005 EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGISTS ELIGIBLE TO PROVIDE SERVICES UNDER MEDICARE
From January 1 2006 exercise physiologists (EPs) will be able to provide services under Medicare's allied health measure to people with chronic and complex illnesses. The IDGP has been actively involved in assisting the Australian Association of Exercise and Sports Scientists with its application for inclusion of EPs in the Medicare program.

The NSW winner of a prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Community Business Partnerships is the Illawarra Division of General Practice (IDGP) together with its media partners PRIME Television and WAVE FM.
19 Aug 2005 Exciting results from Physical Activity GP-EP Referral Project
Analysis of results of the pilot project shows that statistically significant improvements were achieved in HbA1c, blood pressure, resting heart rate, cardio-respiratory fitness and upper and lower body strength.
18 Aug 2005 Analysis shows benefits for TAADIS patients
A comparative analysis of data collected by TAADIS with datafrom 16 Divisions collected by the NDDP (National Divisions Diabetes Program) has been completed by CEPHRIS, UNSW (the Centre for Equity in Primary Health Research in Illawarra and Shoalhaven). The NDDP data comprised data collected using CARDIAB.

Numbers are limited to 15 so register your interest early! The workshops will be held over two evenings - Wednesday 14 September (GPs only) and Wednesday 21 September (GPs and other mental health and drug and alcohol service providers including those in the community as well as those in the private sector such as psychologists and psychiatrist).
