The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved for registration that Australian - made Panvax H1N1 Vaccine Junior enabling children from 6 months to 9 years of age to be protected against the pandemic H1N1 influenza.
The registration by the TGA followed the evaluaton of clinical trial data by the regulator and review by the expert Australian Drug Evaluation Commitee (ADEC). Children under 10 years of age will require two doses of the vaccine administrated at 28 days apart, this is in line with the proccess of children's seasonal flu vaccine.
Who should get the vaccine?
Anyone aged 6 month and over who wishes to be protected from pandemic influenza.
Who should not get the vaccine?
Some people should not have the vaccination. This includes people who
· Have a severe allergy to eggs
· Have had anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) following any vaccine component
· Have had anaphylaxis Chief Medical Officer Letter to Practicesfollowing a previous dose of any influenza vaccine.
