DocMail

The Docmail Program Docmail is a computer program designed to notify GPs as nominated by patients on admission, of patient hospital information via e-mail. Docmail is programmed to retrieve specific information from the HOSPAS system (computer system used by the IAHS hospitals), place that information within an appropriate format and e-mail to the nominated GP. Information Displayed on a Docmail Message Following the rewrite of the Docmail program the information contained in the Docmail message is:

  • date of admission, booking, transfer or discharge,

  • the AMO,

  • the patient MRN,

  • patient details (name, age, sex, D.O.B, and address),

  • presenting problem or surgery completed,

  • the hospital name,

  • discharge status,

  • the hospital ward,

  • link to previous patient admission information as far back as 3 years, and

  • a link to a list of current inpatients at all IAHS hospitals.

Steps are being taken to expand this information to include additional hospital information such as Pathology information. The e-mailing of discharge summaries from the Wollongong Hospital is an initiative offset from the Docmail Project. Currently 27 IDGP GPs are receiving discharge summaries from the Wollongong Hospital via e-mail.
