Graduate School of MedicineThe University of Wollongong's Graduate School of Medicine opened in 2007. The GSM aims to produce excellent medical practitioners who have the capacity and desire to contribute to the enhancement of health care for patients in all geographic settings, but particularly in regional, rural and communities. The GSM curriculum has four themes: medical sciences, research and critical analysis, personal and professional development and clinical competencies. This latter theme is clinically led and provides students with the opportunity to start developing their clinical skills from the first year (in Phase 1), in a number of settings including general practices. More senior (Phase 3) students will experience a year-long placement based in general practices but integrated with local hospital and community health care facilities in remote, rural and regional NSW, including the Illawarra. In 2010, there are 37 GP teaching practices in the Illawarra with more than 95 GPs teaching students in their practice, and many more contributing to clinical, research and governance areas of the GSM.
Shell Cove Family HealthThe IDGP is developing a GP Super Clinic in Shell Cove to be named Shell Cove Family Health.
