Medicare - For Allied Health Professionals

Allied Health Initiative

Under the new Medicare initiative, patients with chronic conditions and complex care needs who are being managed by their GP under a GP Management Plan (GPMP) may access a Medicare rebate for certain allied health services (up to five services in total per patient, each calendar year).

Allied Health Providers (AHP) must be registered with Medicare to provide these services.

Team members must communicate with the GP as part of their contribution to the care plan. Communication should preferably be undertaken either in person, by telephone or by videoconferencing. Where it is not practical to communicate this way, a two-way exchange of emails or faxes may be used.
